Nursery contributed plant descriptions

'Hensol Violet' is the rare lavender purple version of the Himalayan blue poppy, Meconopsis betonicifolia. It will bloom in shades of pale to mid lavender. Plant in humus-rich, well-drained soil in cool, bright shade. Avoid winter wetness. Often listed as either zone 3 or 5 hardy from various sources. However, my mother-in-law, Ramona, who lived in zone 1b Saskatchewan grew and bloomed blue poppies by mulching them with a deep pile of fallen leaves each autumn. Make sure to use this method in zones 1-4.
We've sold this before as the pink form of baileyi but now have the correct name. These are lovely 4-petaled flowers of a distinctive mauve pink and has proved to be a good perennial form. While it is in the Poppy family, it hates the sun and dry. Give this a moist well-drained rich soil in bright shade to morning sun.
