Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A magnificent succulent agave relative with huge leaves that are variously spotted with shades of chocolate and overlain with a lavender sheen. 'Macho Mocha' is derived from a rare natural cross between Manfreda variegata and Agave celsii which grow together in the wild. Collector Paul Shoenfeld thought he had seed of the Manfreda. But when the seed germinated he had something very different and very rare. Plant in sharp drainage or in a container protected from winter rain.
Sun or Shade. Outdoor. 10' Flower sipkes with Greenish White to White Flowers.

Manfreda x Agave had relations and produced this bold beauty with the best traits of both parents! 2' tall rosettes of pointed, rubbery, succulent leaves are heavily spotted with purple. As the plant matures (eventually to 3' wide), it can produce a 4' spike of white flowers that are hummer candy! Hardy to about 10 degrees, best in containers of well drained soil in areas of cold wet winters (at its best as a featured specimen).
Succulent blue-gray leaves with freckles of brownish purple. Full sun will give the best color. 3 foot wide rosette of leaves & 8 foot flower stalk.
Possibly a hybrid between Manfreda jaliscana and Agave scabra, this nearly 2' plant, from the semi-desert canyons just over the mountains from Monterey, Mexico, boasts deep purple leaves with, indeed, coffee-colored polka dots over the entire plant. For sun, good drainage, and average summer water. Evergreen to 20 °F and root hardy into the low teens, USDA zone 8.
