Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Discovered by Talon Buchholz. This plant is like a smaller version of Acer pal. ‘Mikawa Yatasbusa’. The leaves are smaller and new growth is vibrant pink in spring. Grows to 2’ in 10 years.
A new rare cutie from a Mikawa yatsubusa parent – this pink and white seedling was found and propagated by Talon Buchholz and is now named ‘Japanese Princess’. A priceless jewel that deserves to be kept in an ornamental container in the landscape or on a deck where she can be enjoyed up close and personal. This outstanding dwarf maple changes color from spring through fall giving the JM aficionado quite a show. From all pink in the spring to pink and white and light green in late spring changing again to darker green leaves in the summer and finally finishing with a crimson red. As the leaves emerge they overlap each other and form tight bunches. One of the special characteristics of this maple is the tight leaf clumps on branches that seem to layer to form a natural bonsai shape. ‘Japanese Princess’ may reach 3′ high and 3′ wide in 10 years. A great pick for bonsai or larger ornamental containers. This distinctive cultivar should be kept in a container, but this does not limit her placement. The container could be a perfect focal point in a small Japanese style garden or near a koi pond. Relatively easy to grow, even a novice maple collector could not go wrong with this choice. Once established this maple is hardy to – 10 degrees – USDA Zone 6. A collector’s must.
