Albuca spiralis ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ is a staff favorite here at Little Prince. We have one in our office that blooms 3 times a year! Narrow, cylindrical leaves emerge from a bulbous base and curl into springs and coils. Winter flowers are pendant, yellow-green, and smell of green olives. Grow on a sunny windowsill in a well-drained medium, and allow soil to dry out between watering. Reduce water in winter. SO CUTE!
Albuca spiralis 'Frizzle Sizzle' is a zany South African zone 8 bulb that has got to have some of the most surprising foliage in the botanical world. The semi-succulent leaves seem like they're going to be normal but then they spiral into dizzying swirls of leafy wonder. This is a perfect addition to a succulent collection. The flowers grow on spikes and are yellow-green. Untried outdoors in coastal BC so likely best as a pot plant to be safe. Bulbs can go dormant for a period so don't fret.
Curious and rare South African bulbous perennial, the grassy onion like leaves are tightly curled and coiled at the ends (plant perm?), heat and dry make them coil even more! 8-12” spring spikes of sweet vanilla scented yellow flowers marked with green add more drama! This kinky plant needs well drained soil, full sun and is summer dormant, returning in fall. Let dry between waterings and find a dry spot for dormancy. Said to make a good houseplant in a sunny window and easy to overwinter indoors. Hardiness is not really known, but said to be USDA Z8b.
