Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A vigorous climbing vine with lobed dark green leaves and burgundy tinted stems that also makes a lovely ground cover for difficult areas, and is just plain spectacular spilling over walls. Vivid indigo blue flowers bloom summer to fall, earliest bloom in the North if grown in pots. Synonym: Ipomoea indica.
We refer to this color as "Imperial Blue" because it has a remarkable quality which demands to be looked at by all who pass by. Ipomoea acuminata flowers earlier when planted in a pot and can be nicely trained on a stake, trellis or grown as a topiary. When grown in sunrooms or greenhouses, blooms last a full day fading into purple as the day ends. It is a rapid grower, flowering year-round in full sun. Although tolerant to cool nights, it prefers warmer temperatures above 60°F for best flowering and growth.
