Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Dryopteris x remota, commonly called the remote wood fern or the scaly buckler fern, is a fertile hybrid of D. affinis and D. expansa with finely textured, light green, evergreen fronds with golden scales that rise to 2-3 feet tall. One of the earliest ferns to emerge in spring and exceptionally drought tolerant. Handsome and easy to grow. Deer resistant.
?This is one of my favorite ferns for the garden? (J. Mickel) and with good reason: this 2-3' fern has a finely cut frond and a stipe (stem) that is shaggy with golden scales; impressive and easy to grow. PSh-Sh/M
Bright green upright fronds w/ a bushy appearance. Laceolate blades have 20 or less pairs of pinnae. Makes a stunning specimen. Plant in in light shade & well drained soil. Zones 4 to 8. Height: 24” to 36” tall. Semi-Evergreen.
Thought to be a cross between affinis and expansa. Whatever its parentage is it has proven to be very tolerable of summer heat and winter cold. Wide arching fronds
Semi-evergreen.Finely dissected, lacy fronds to 3' wide have broad, pointed outlines with umber colored scales. Horizontally arching. Can self sow in good conditions.
