Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Maidenhair Fern, a result of A. aleuticum and A. jordanii; wiry black stems contrast nicely with the soft, bright green leaves that dangle from them. This west coast native prefers light shade in cool, moist woodland soil, where it will create a nice expanding clump 18-20”tall. Easy to grow, will adapt to pot life.  USDA Zone 6-9  3" pot
Will get 12” tall with filmy deep green fronds. The black stems make a great contrast.
Adiantum x tracyi is a naturally occurring hybrid that displays evergreen to semi-evergreen, rich green fronds in a horizontally arching habit. Maidenhair ferns thrive in neutral to acidic, loose, richly organic soil. Excellent for mass plantings, rock gardens, containers, in woodlands, and naturalized landscapes.
Naturally occurring cross between A. aleuticum & A. jordanii provide the best attributes of parents with attractive triangular fronds. Plant in light shade & moist soil. Height: 12”. Zones 7 to 10. Evergreen.
Adiantum aleuticum (Western Maidenhair) and Adiantum jordanii (California Fan Maidenhair) produced naturally this Maidenhair hybrid that is reportedly particularly cold-hardy, and is curiously evergreen while its parents are not. Like the other Maidenhairs, it has black-stemmed delicate arching fronds and forms a feathery green mound. 2' tall clump.
Tracy's maidenhair fern is an attractive sterile cross between A. jordanii (maternal parent) and A. aleuticum that occurs where the two species grow together in California. It is a protected California native fern. It can grow to 1-2 feet tall and wide with light green, lacy foliage on black stipes. Our tissue cultured clones are heat tolerant.
