Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Evergreen fern with dark green mature fronds. The new growth is bronze color through the growing season.
This is one of the most ornamental and beautiful ferns of them all. The new fronds emerge a lustrous copper-orange color which is brighter and lasts longer than the species. The showy foliage with its glossy sheen and tints of orange make this brilliant selection a champion. The arching 1-2' evergreen fronds are wonderful planted en masse or as a border for the woodland garden and are beautiful in a container as well. PSh-Sh/M
Colorful, arching 2’ vase shaped clumps of evergreen (semi evergreen in colder ranges) lacy fronds that unfurl in fiery shades of coppery orange red, this selection being brighter and having longer lasting coloration; red spores on leaf undersides add to the look. Part shade to shade, regular water (takes wet), humus rich soil is a plus. Happy plants will slowly creep on rhizomes. Easy and dependable.
Zn 5. New growth bright salmon/orange.Evergreen
Nice selection with coppery-red new foliage that is brighter and more dramatic than the species. Beautiful choice for shady borders and the woodland garden. Fronds mature to dark green.Minimum temperature: -20?F
Glossy fronds greet the spring dressed in bright orange/salmon and rose tones and hold their color well into summer before turning an appropriately shiny dark green for summer and lasting all winter. You'll be impressed with this plant's brilliant contribution to the garden panorama. Like most Dryopteris it is drought-tolerant once established but really prefers evenly moist soil in a shady location. Give it a place of honor in your garden- you'll be glad you did!

Named for its lustrous spring color, Brilliance Autumn Fern's new fronds emerge a bright coppery-orange with rosy highlights. They hold this color well into summer before changing to glossy green. Brilliance has good drought tolerance once established and it stays evergreen during the winter months. Hardy in zones 5-8, it will grow in fertile soil in partial sun to shade. Brilliance Autumn Fern looks great in the garden no matter what the season.
Though all autumn ferns have beautifully-coloured new growth, 'Brilliance' offers new fronds that are a particularly bold copper-red. It is easy to grow and evergreen to semi-evergreen depending on the coldness of our winters. It tolerates a wide range of garden conditions, including extreme drought, once established. Once you've ushered this colorful easy-care fern into your woodland, you'll see how deceptive its common name is. While 'Brilliance' delivers toasty russet shades in autumn, the dynamic display actually commences in spring when young pink fiddleheads transmute vibrant reddish copper and pink hues, and then mellow to a bronzy green. Polished dark green and tropical-looking, mature fronds are embellished during the summer by dramatic bright red spores on their flipsides and contrasting henna-tinted new growth throughout the season. 'Brilliance' can be utilized as a tall textural ground cover or as a striking specimen that remains evergreen in milder areas and relishes even moisture and good drainage.

Autumn Fern is distinguished by it's coppery-pink new growth that matures to a glossy green in summer. The reddish tint to the spores in late summer attest to the cultivar name. 18-24".
A small fern, great for the shady or woodland garden, with wonderfully colored foliage that begins with coppery new growth, greening in summer and re-coppering again in fall. Evergreen through most winters in the Pacific Northwest, recovering easily from any unusual temperatures. Plants are 24-36" tall by 15" wide and do well in part to full shade. Regular moisture is best. Frost hardy in USDA zone 5.
There's common names for you. Don't expect fireworks in the fall from this one because you get them all spring and summer with the new fronds unfurling a pinky coppery red before they age to the expected green. Very showy and one of the best evergreen ferns.
