Beautiful snow-white blooms feature an exquisite amethyst band on the petal reverse giving it an unusual bicolor effect. The blossoms nod in the morning and evening really showing off the banding, while during the day they stand up and show their pretty faces. Deep-green foliage forms clumps 2' wide making the perfect backdrop for the elegant 2' flowers. Perhaps its best attribute is that it blooms continuously from late-spring all the way until frost! This wonderful award winning perennial makes a great cut-flower is deer and salt resistant and attracts butterflies. A perfect plant for cottage gardens, borders, containers, rock gardens and more! A spectacular yet elegant hybrid, Anemone Wild Swan has nodding purple buds opening to large white flowers with light purple reverses. Flowers over an extended period from late spring into fall. Deep green mounds of foliage. A hybrid bred in Scotland and trialled for 10 years before release involving A. rupicola and up to 4-5 other parents! Winner of the 2011 Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year Award. Does not spread.
A big hit at the 2011 Chelsea Flower Show, this hybrid of early and late blooming Anemones is sight to behold. From periwinkle blue nodding buds, open 5 petaled simple white flowers surrounding bright yellow centers. Each petal's backside has a flush of this blue, adding so much to Wild Swan's charm. What remains to be told is that this hybrid produces flushes of blossoms early summer to fall, providing a long season of interest. This will be our first year offering this plant, and we're passing on these cultural notes…White Swan needs evenly moist soil and spent flowers need to be removed to keep plants happy all summer. The blue highlights are deepest when temperatures are cooler. A winter mulch is recommended ion cooler zones.
Large (2 - 3") nodding single white blooms have sparkling yellow centers and an ethereal, light violet-blue on the reverse, especially noticeable on nodding buds and when flowers close in evening. It's a prolific bloomer, flowering from early spring to late fall, and does not re-seed...and it's absolutely beautiful! Itwon the Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year award for 2011. Minimum temperature: -10°F
This demure flower was found in nurserywoman Elizabeth MacGregor’s garden (fancy that!) and has since gone on to fame in England and the US, prized for its amazing hybrid vigor, its unabashed blooming power, and its reticence to spread into neighboring plantings. The large white flowers (3” or more) open wide during the day, and close as twilight approaches to a nodding bell brushed in dusky violet. Provide humus rich moist, yet well drained soils and deadhead for flowers from spring to frost.
