Ajuga reptans 'Mahogany' is a fast-growing broadleaf semi-evergreen perennial groundcover with black, burgundy and chocolate foliage. In spring and summer flowers emerge. Features glossy texture. Attracts bees and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly shade and even moisture - occasional water. Does well in average, rich and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant.

Ajuga reptans ‘Mahogany’ exhibits lush, almost black-burgundy colored leaves with stunning, bright blue flowers. Deer resistant. Thrives in any type of soil but not too dry. Bugleweed is often used as a groundcover and is also useful for erosion control. Excellent for edging and rock gardens.
(MAHOGANY BUGLEWEED) Carpeting perennial 2-4” high that suppresses weeds, elongated round leaves emerge black burgundy in spring and mature to a nice mahogany by summer. Spikes of blue purple flowers 6-8” April May. Can be mowed or sheared after bloom to rejuvenate foliage. Average soils with good drainage, part shade (3-4 hrs sun best) – dislikes humidity & wet heavy soil. Evergreen in all but coldest range. Deer resistant and walnut tolerant. USDA Z4
Glossy, rich mahogany-colored leaves held in a flat, trailing growth pattern 3-6" tall. Bright blue flowers appear in spring. Foliage color is best in full sun along the coast.
