Very dramatic deciduous perennial from South Africa, strappy leafed clumps 18-20” give rise to 3’ stems topped by near black upright buds that slowly elongate, turning earthward, dangling in dark purple violet splendor July-August (have seen bloom into October). Full sun, well drained soil (though more tolt of winter wet than most of this genus).  USDA Zone 7b  3"x 3"x 5" pot
Beautiful green and cream variegated Sweet Flag. Use between stepping stones, as a ground cover, poolside plant or containers. Nice in edges. Tolerates some boggy conditions.
A mouthful. This is a deciduous variety that get's to 2". The owers are nearly black and droop as they begin to open. Hardy to about 15 and perhaps lower with mulch. Good drainage needed to avoid root rot here in the North West.
Uncommon in the trade, 'Graskop' has deep, dark, nodding violet-blue flowers with a bit of green at the base. Long, dark green strappy leaves make a fountain from the ground. 3 feet tall and clumping.
Dark violet drooping flowers mid-summer accent the narrow light green leaves.
Dark blue, nearly black buds that open to dark, violet-purple flowers mark this striking, deciduous agapanthus. Flowering in July and August, the 3 ft stems rise a foot above the clumps of light green, strap-like leaves. A bit more cold hardy than evergreen relatives, this cultivar from the northeast Transvaal in South Africa enjoys sun, well-drained soil, and spring and summer water. Also tolerates winter rains. Frost hardy to 15 to 20 °F, mid to upper USDA zone 8.
This selection of A. inapertus has deep blue pendulous flowers in midsummer. This plant was named and introduced by the Kirstenbosch Botanic Garden in South Africa. We don't know the hardiness yet but this plant would make an excellent container plant or plant for the milder garden.
