Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This Central African species has an upright and spreading form which highlights the deeply curved petals and dangling stamens. Often called "Japanese Lantern," it's a sporadic bloomer. But when it does flower, watch out!
JAPANESE LANTERN CORAL - A rapid growing semi weeping tropical plant with the most unusual flowers. Exotic dangling 5 petaled flowers, coral red, fringed and lacy, recurved petals make this a spectacular variety. Flowers periodically year round, followed by oblong cylindrical seed capsules. Likes sun and humidity, minimum temperature 60 degrees. Hardy zone 10. Also known as Coral Hibiscus or Chinese Lantern.
The fringed recurving coral-red petals are unique to this Hibiscus species. The bright tropical flowers hang like Japanese lanterns from the vigorous branches. An easily grown and free-flowering tropical and a definite conversation piece. Easily trained into tree standards. Blooms prolifically throughout summer.
