Macleania insignis is a broadleaf evergreen shrub or vine with green foliage. In spring pink, red and white flowers emerge followed by purple fruit. Features glossy texture. Attracts hummingbirds. Grows well with sun - mostly shade and regular water. Does well in acidic and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something humidity tolerant.

Another curious caudex forming tropical blueberry relative. This native to the cloud forests of the eastern Central American Sierra has leathery evergreen leaves and brilliant red in new growth and 2 inch coral tubular flowers borne at the leaf axils along trailing stems. The trailing form lends itself to a hanging basket or trellis training. Likes cool well drained soil with regular water and ample humidity sun to afternoon shade and frost free conditions. USDA zone 9b.

Mart. & Gal. Ericaceae. BLM 0628. Native from Mexico to Guatemala in the eastern sierra cloud forests. Epiphytic and terrestrial and grows large above-ground tubers. Very attractive as a caudiciform and especially so when in flower (bright pink). Likes cool (50-80 deg. F) conditions and filtered light. We grow it under the greenhouse benches. Perhaps the first time in cultivation. Shipped potted.
