Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Crispa' is a shorter and more compact Japanese anemone with intriguing ruffled and crinkled leaves with red-tinged edges that look like triple curled parsley or kale. The large single pink flowers are similar to the other fall-blooming anemones. Some confusion exists in the naming of this plant. This cultivar has been cited as not having the crinkled leaves but the plants that we offer do.
Reminiscent of triple curled parsley, the striking green leaves are embellished with curious curves, crinkles, ruffles and red-tinged margins. In autumn, 2 ft. tall stalks present delicate, 3 in. wide pale pink flowers, centered by shaggy yellow eyes, above an ultra-textured mound, which is more compact and less spreading than other hupehensis cultivars. Though there's some confusion about its origins, this unusual British selection may be 'Lady Gilmour', an age-old cultivar first recorded in 1895.
All the great characteristics of the Japanese hybrid anemones, vigorous, tall, shade tolerant, with a profusion of pink flowers in the fall, but with the added flair of an exuberant crinkled leaf margin that makes the whole thing look like some sort of gourmet lettuce. Zone 4 ? Joseph
PARSLEY LEAF ANEMONE - The foliage of this variety resembles parsley or lettuce as its green leaves are finely crinkled. Very unusual. Single 3" pale pink wrinkled blooms with yellow centers. Blooming in early autumn. Hardy zone 5-8. Grows up to 24", flowering in September.
