Geranium Orkney Cherry PP18263

Geranium ‘Orkney Cherry’ is a bronze foliaged, dense, mounding herbaceous perennial. ‘Orkney Cherry’ is known for it’s long flowering season. Displays masses of pink flowers with red veins and white throats.

Selected for it's long bloom season (begins flowering in early May). Flowering INCREASES throughout the season and by mid-summer, is just crowded with small rosy blooms. Foliage is attractive bronzy-green which makes a superb backdrop to the vivid rosy pink blooms. Prefers neutral or somewhat alkaline soil! A good spreader and filler between plants! More like a groundcover. This is possibly the most exciting Geranium introduced to trade in years! Very different! The complicated breeding of this hybrid -- G.x oxonianum (G. endressii x G. versicolor) x G.x antipodeum (G.sessiliflorum x G. traversii) by plantsman Alan Bremner of Scotland on the Scottish Orkney Island is worth reading about! 'Orkney Cherry' actually has aspects of all 4 of the species that were used to breed it! He also introduced Geranium 'Patricia' if that gives you an idea of the quality of his plants!

'Orkney Cherry' has many things going for it: it has attractive bronzy-green foliage with a silver sheen, it has masses of vivid pink flowers, it blooms for a long period from early May until the end of the summer, and it's Scottish having been bred off the rugged coast of Scotland! (I can almost hear the bag pipes playing 'Danny Boy'.) Plant in sun to part shade in well-drained soils.
