Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A stately (4-6') mid-late summer perennial with reddish tinted stems bearing multiple spires of pink-purple flowers beloved by bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Grow Veronicastum in a rich moisture retentive soil for it to luxuriate. Foliage has a reddish bronze cast.
Veronicastum 'Red Arrow' is a lovely, tall, back of the border, late-flowering clumper that loves moist feet and good sun. The flowers look like reddish-pink candelabras in the garden. The leaves are very attractive forming whorls around the upright stems.
True to its name, this distinctive undemanding Coen Jansen introduction asserts deep rosy red buds squeezed onto a central spike, surrounded by slightly smaller side stalks all opening at the same time and presenting a unique arrow shape. Cherished by bees and butterflies, the striking spires unfurl a multitude of tiny violet flowers, while whorled lanceolate leaves attire tall steadfast stems. A glamourous upright mainstay for any planting, 'Red Arrows' soars amongst Trifolium rubens, Phlomis 'Amazon' and Sedum 'Matrona' in a prairie-style landscape or a more formal setting.
