Hippeastrum reticulatum is a native of South America, this beauty can form large clumps with unique green leaves striped with a central white midrib. The flowers are pink with a white central vein and white mottling running through the petals. Or the flowers are white with pink detailing and stripes. However you describe it this is a beautiful hardy amaryllis for a protected location in the garden. Mulch in winter with a pile of fallen leaves.

Hippeastrum reticulata is a bulb plant still often referred to as an Amaryllis. The plant is from Brazil and it will grow a large bulb softball size once mature or more. One of the main distinctive features to the plant is the white line that runs down every leaf in the center. Most Amaryllis are just considered ornamental flowering plants but this has great foliage that is just as interesting to look at. Once large enough the plant produces large pink flowers 6 inches across. Plants usually grow to 1 to 2 feet tall and have been observed hardy in zone 8 or higher. Makes for a great plant in warm climates or container plant in cooler northern states.
