Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A late-summer beauty, this quietly elegant form of the Japanese gentian ?Oyama-rindo? has very fine royal blue flowers (rather than the slate-blue to white of the species) on 8-16" stems in late summer. S-PSh/M/lime-free
This selection from the mountains of Japan will rise to about three and a half feet with erect stems topped with clusters of true blue, upright two inch long flowers at the tips and in the upper leaf axils. The flowers do not seem to open completely but remain as fat elongated buds. An easy garden perennial happiest in a peaty acidic soil. Though somewhat slow growing, 'Royal Blue' makes a dramatic display in late summer and is a great cut flower.
