Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Like so many hollies, this wonderful female holly goes by what seems like a male cultivar! Selected by Dr. Orton at Rutgers University and named for Dan Fenton whose delightful legacy is that he is credited with planting more than 4,000 hollies. This excellent 30-40' cultivar features large, glossy, deep-green foliage and loads of abundant dark-red fruit that persists well into winter. This wonderful pyramidal evergreen makes a brilliant specimen or screen. A male opaca is needed for fruit set. S-PSh/M
One of the most highly regarded American holly cultivars, selected by "Dr Holly" of Rutgers, Dr Elwin Orton and named for a co-founder of the Holly Society of America. Dan Fenton was known as "Mr. Holly" and is credited for planting more than 4,000 holly trees in and around Cumberland County, NJ. 'Dan Fenton' the plant becomes a magnificent large evergreen tree, with lustrous dark green leaves and abundant bright red berries.
