Fantastic showy color late summer to fall! This full growing paniculata has wonderful changing colors, turning to strawberry red in fall. Full creamy white blooms emerge in July, slowly turning the full bloom to strawberry pink, from the bottom to the top. Strong green foliage adorn strong stems. Limited supply but hope to bring in more plants next year.
Vanilla Strawberry™ Hydrangea is a low maintenance shrub with show-stopping blooms of cream and pink. The flowers begin creamy white, then turn to a beautiful pink, and later to a deep burgundy. They make beautiful dried flower arrangements. You can get some of every hue all at once on the same flower head making a stunning show for your garden. Pollinators love the flowers.
Vanilla Strawberry panicle hydrangea is a long-lasting white and pink flower show. Flowers start out white and when nighttime temperatures cool in late summer, they age/antique deep rich pink like in the pictures, then darken mauve-rose. The pictures show the flower color progression. New white flowers are reported to still be opening as older ones antique deep pink. They turn this breathtaking pink especially well in areas with cool nighttime temperatures. We see a nice-but-mild antiqued pink where we are in zone 8a and the plant grows quite happily, but it really shows off and is one of the most interesting panicle hydrangeas available for areas with cooler nights (That being a mere 1 hour north of us in Zone 7b. Gosh, almost there!). All that to say, it will grow well and you'll have a lovely white-flowering shrub in zone 8a, but you'll likely get the full extended show in zone 7b moving northward. All of our Vanilla Strawberry hydrangeas are grown as multiple-stemmed shrubs. Vanilla Strawberry panicle hydrangea is one of two First Editions® hydrangeas that we grow.
