Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Eucalyptus gunnii, the cider gum, is a beautiful, fast-growing, hardy eucalypt that has been grown successfully in coastal BC for many years. The rounded juvenile foliage is silvery blue. The mature leaves are lance- or egg-shaped and blue green. Pruning or coppicing can encourage sustained production of juvenile foliage to enjoy fresh or dried in bouquets. 'Silver Drop' is a seed strain with extra silver foliage which is pleasingly aromatic. Drought tolerant once established.

Fragrant, silvery-blue-green eucalyptus foliage is a must-have for cut flower arrangements or fragrance gardens. The small, round, waxy juvenile leaves grow on upright stems; the leaves elongate as the plant matures. Pruning Silver Drop into a shrub will maintain the round juvenile leaf form. This fast grower can add 3-4' in a single season. In colder climates, grow as an annual or bring it inside the house before frost. It grows 3-4' in containers or up to 15' if planted in the ground in zones 9-11. White flowers arrive in mid-summer. Native to Tasmania, eucalyptus needs full sun for best growth. Eucalyptus is also an aromatic herb that's used for aromatherapy.
