One of the best-known species of the genus, H. gardnerianum has foot tall inflorescences of bright canary yellow flowers with firey red stamens. The flowers have a light fragrance. The season's new stems emerge late, often in June. Full sun in rich soil with abundant moisture during the growing season. Mulch with fallen leaves in winter. In colder regions grow in a pot or store in dry peat moss and keep above zero.
An erect, rhizomatous, clumping perennial. Glossy, mid green, long, lance shaped leaves are borne along rigid, hollow, fleshy stems. During Summer spikes of large, delicate, spidery, strongly perfumed, yellow flowers are produced.A fantastic plant for adding a hint of the tropics to your garden.Probably the hardiest of the Gingers in our climate but still needs protection from strong wind and frosts.

Possibly the showiest of all Hedychium gingers, H. Gardnerianum produces a huge spray of fragrant butterfly-like green/yellow flowers with red stamens. Sometimes call Hardy Ginger Lily, Hedychium Gingers are more cold hardy than most gingers, They put on a great show of flowers in the summer to early fall. Loves part-shade, heat, and moisture. Cold hardy in zones 7+. Move inside for winter in colder areas.
Kahili Ginger. A hardy (with mulch in winter) Ginger that is among the most attractive. Fragrant yellow flowers with prominent red stamens combine with the gray-green leaves to knock your socks off. Great in containers but bring in over winter. Grow in rich moist soil.
Known as the Kihili ginger this root hardy ginger has yellow flowers with a light fragrance. It grows to about 5' high and blooms in the fall.
