Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Dr. Brown Japanese Maple is unique with its Ph.D. in beauty and its ornamental leaves that sometimes have more lobes than other palmatum maples. Soft pinkish-brown color leaves and branching provide an umbrella shape at maturity. Dr. Brown Japanese Maple puts on a show of yellows, oranges, and reds for the fall color. This unique plant will be a talking point in your landscape.
An unusual reddish-brown lace leaf weeping maple that handles full sun – even though it has delicate looking leaves. If grown in full sun the leaf color is more of a rust color, but if grown in mostly shade this cultivar lives up to its name – a softer light brown color. New growth is pinkish red which evolves to the sunny rust color or to the shady light brown. Finally Dr. Brown evolves into a bright fire-engine red fall finish. This cultivar is relatively new and not often found in retail nurseries. A moderate growing cultivar can reach 4′ high and 4′ wide in 10 years. Good accent maple for a Japanese style garden or water feature and one of my new favorites [Sam]. Once established hardy to USDA zone 5. Photos courtesy of Talon Buchholz.

Lacy leaves are light bronze-green with mild yellow variegation on this mounding, fairly slow-growing specimen. Fall colors are yellow and orange.
A small lace-leaf Japaneses Maple with a spreading habit. Small dissected leaves are colored an unusual brown-red in spring. The brown color remains present, even when the brown-red evolves to green-red in summer. Fall color is an outstanding orange-yellow.
