If you asked for the #1 pollinator plant, this is what we would give you! This lovely little compact, non-spreading perennial bloomed NON STOP for us from April until November and was ABUZZ with many species of bees from dawn to dark. This selection makes an 18” tall mound that’s about 2’ wide with tiny, fragrant, silver green leaves and small white flowers (blue in cold weather). Seeds are sterile so no unwanted progeny. Enjoys full sun and a dryish, sandy soil. Maintenance free.
It has been a few years since we've carried 'Montrose White' Calamint, but a customer asked for it, so now we have it. It is a great plant...easy to grow in zones 5-7 (we've been told it doesn't like southern heat) and for us, it performs from late June until frost with airy white lipped flowers, that take on a pale blue tint in cool weather. To my eyes it is identical to the form we have always grown...Calamintha nepeta ssp nepetoides.....I've never found seedlings of it anywhere in the 20+ years we've grown it. Height 15-18" x width 15-18". beloved by pollinators and butterflies and deer resistant.
With a light-on-its-feet stance, this resilient new cultivar is a vast improvement over the species, boasting nonstop bloom and a tidy mounding habit that never flops. Small softly green, mint-scented leaves bolster large terminal spires of crisp white flowers from June 'til the first frost. Undeterred by heat, drought or meddlesome deer, 'Montrose White's fine textured good looks are just right for an herb planting, a mixed border or a cottage garden.
