Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Folks always comment on this smaller tidy form of Baptisia australis when they see it in our garden. Plants form dense 24-30" mounds of almost eucalyptus looking foliage, complimented with violet blue lupine like flowers in late spring. It is slower growing than other forms of Baptisia, but extremely long lived and loves a sunny spot with well drained soil.
Softly colored racemes laden with lavender-blue, sweet-pealike flowers sway well above a compact assemblage of rounded blue-green leaves. Displaying a stance and foliage about one half the size of Baptisia australis, this superb variety's nearly 2 ft. tall blooms are unparalleled. Later, large brownish black, papery seed pods form, which bring captivating visual accents, and even rattling sounds to arrangements.
Another one of the many underused perennials. Just because it has been around for over 100 years doesn't mean it's not good. Besides that, this form is as tough, drought and heat tolerant as all Baptisias and it is a very profuse bloomer with the bluest flower.
