Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Gorgeous 36" stems of yellow throated coral flowers resembling a flame rising above a green 24" mound of foliage; the perfect plant if you would like a tropical feel in your garden. S-PSh/M
This award-winning new hybrid, 'Illumination Flame,' has sturdy flowering spikes that can reach an impressive 2-3' tall. The bright reddish-orange, tubular flowers have yellow speckled throats with a red tinge around the petal edges and it has been nicknamed the 'foxglove with lipstick." The bloom spikes last for many weeks in the garden and the plant continuously produces new spikes from lateral shoots throughout the growing season. A cross between European Purple Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) and Canary Island Foxglove (Isoplexis canariensis), 'Illumination Flame' is hardy to zone 8 and sterile, so it doesn't produce viable seed. 'Illumination Flame' is a perennial in zones 8 and higher that will bloom every year (unlike most foxgloves that only bloom every other year). You'll want to try 'Illumination Flame' in your garden or patio arrangement this year and see what the excitement is all about!
The Illumination series offers intergeneric hybrids between foxglove (Digitalis) and its Canary Island relative Isoplexis. 'Flame' sports spectacular tubular flowers that are bright reddish-magenta with orange-yellow throats. It looks like a foxglove crossed with a Hawaiian shirt. The flowers are densely packed on tall black stems with attractive foliage. Side branching and its sterile nature give an extended bloom time.
THE big, new, exciting introduction to the gardening world this year will knock your socks off! What we have here is a perennial "Foxglove" that has thrilled us to no end in our first trial, and in fact won "Best in Show" at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2012. A fascinating hybrid 6 years in the making by Charles Valin (that was thought to be impossible), it's a cross between common garden foxglove Digitalis purpurea and its Canary Island perennial cousin Isoplexis canariensis. Since it’s a sterile hybrid, it doesn't make any seed but instead puts all that energy into blooming continuously from Spring thru Fall! And even though sterile, it still attracts butterflies and bees. Multiple, magnificent, huge, non-stop, 3' tall bloom spikes hold large, rich Fuschia-pink blooms that face graciously outwards, the better to show off those spotted golden throats. A bit tropicalesque in color and feel, they're fantastically staged above the dark, rich green foliar mound to 24" across. Easy to grow, do give it good loamy soil with compost added to see what it really can do! And it’s adaptable to full sun thru bright shade, just think of the possibilities! A ferny or dark foliaged companion would be swell. You get both with long lived, ferny black Chervil – Anthriscus sylvestris 'Raven's Wing' (online) or black foliaged Angelica stricta 'Purpurea' (p. XX). With its endless blooming, it also makes a terrific choice for a large pot at least 20" x 20" in size
