One of the more attractive "live-forevers," this genus is a winter rainfall loving echeveria from west of the mountains from Baja to Oregon from 500 to 8000 ft. Rosettes to 5" of purple-gray leaves cling to shady boulders and produce spring flowers of coral-orange atop tall, red stems. Wonderful rock garden plant or pot specimen for VERY well-drained soil, a bit of summer water, and dry winters. Frost hardy in USDA zone 8 lower if kept winter dry, e.g. in a moveable pot.
A clump forming Californian succulent with rosettes of pointed, finger width, white powdered, rose tinted, glaucous leaves. Clusters of upright, rich orange, bell-like flowers are held aloft on short powdered stems in the spring. Probably best in a pot unless your fortunate enough to garden in water repellent sand or in dry soil under trees. Summer water is best avoided and excellent drainage is essential. An excellent frost and drought tolerant alternative to Echeveria.

Compact rosettes with broad, nearly flat green leaves, lightly dusted white. Flowering stems reach 4-12" tall and bear erect, reddish-yellow blooms in spring and early summer. California.
Chalky blue rosettes look gorgeous with the orange-red flowers. Grown from seed of cold tolerant plants.
