This darling miniature makes a 6" wide clump of stiff, narrow, golden foliage. This has become one of our favorite small hostas for the woodland rock garden. In midsummer, the clumps are topped with light lavender flowers.
Has leaves up to 18” across. This large shade plant will give a bold foliage effect even in cold climates (-10° F.). Flowers are small, but foliage is great.
This plant will love your moist soil and dappled shade. Its arching, creamy-white plumes will remind you of a large Astilbe and its umbrella-like, large foliage is just sensational. A great foliage plant for contrasting with finer foliage.
The great, broad planes of this magnificent Chinese native bring an unmatched calm to shady garden spots. Recessed in the center where thick, hairy stalks are attached, the bold foliage emerges in un-ique bright green shades, and later matures to light green. Nearly 2 ft. across, each slightly lobed, umbrellalike leaf is gracefully scalloped. Strong, dark, flowering stems soar aloft to 5 ft., hosting heavy, drooping plumes of star-shaped, creamy white flowers. Once considered a member of the genus Rodgersia, this monumental Astilboides thrives in moist, humus-rich soil.
If you prefer Rodgersia tabularis, by any name this is a spectacular plant, with huge tropical looking leaves topped by white Astilbe like plumes of flowers. Video from the garden channel of Dan Crows spectacular garden shows it grown to perfection and has generated many inquiries here at the nursery, to see it is to want it, unfortunately it was mis-identified as a Petasites?Oops.
Blooms: summer, white plumes/ large impressive circular leaves Zone 7-10. 24"-60", China. Part sun-shade, moist, well drained.

A big look for the shade with magnificent rounded leaves to 3' wide and early summer panicles of plumed white flowers on stalks up to five feet high. Loves a rich moist soil and shovelful or two of cow, horse, goat or llama poo would be most welcome.
Highly valued for its fabulously bold, tropicalesque foliage, this native of China & Japan forms big clumps, 3’ to 4’ tall & across. The beautiful leaves, like large, rounded, shallowly lobed fans, are light green & softly hairy. Bloom time is from May to July, when the strong, dark, upright stems display plume-like spikes of numerous, tiny, creamy white, star-shaped flowers. Astilboides tabularis likes part shade to bright shade, rich, composty soil & cool, moist conditions. A good choice for growing next to a pond or moist corner. Takes several years to get a good-sized clump.
