Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A small tree to 15' or so and densely branched to the ground. Foliage emerges with reddish tinges, and the seeds bear this same intriguing reddish color. Curious to us is that the limited horticultural literature disparages it: we find it quite attractive. Very rare plant in China, and even more-so in American landscapes, it ought to be more widely planted for its adaptability and trouble-free character. Note for IPM managers: This plant is by far the most preferred leaf fodder for root weevil adults that we've ever seen. We have nearly eliminated spraying of greenhouses or fields for weevils because we strategically planted this tree in the middle of the nursery as an irresistible weevil bait plant. Now we spray only around the base of these trees in June to kill any feeding adult root weevils. Consequently, we notice few weevil problems anymore on any other landscape plants, or in our greenhouse vicinity. This feature alone makes it a $ plant.
