Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Flat-topped clusters of white flowers are welcome in fall (by man and bee!) and followed by clusters of black fruits on this 50-60' tree; smooth, streaked or speckled bark and large compound leaves complete the picture. S/M
When this tree flowers, it comes ALIVE with the buzzing of bees! Walking under it is a concert of musical humming. A smallish deciduous tree with an umbrella shape typically 20-25’ high and wide. Small flowers appear July-August and are white in flattened 4-6” fragrant corymbs which ripen to attractive red capsules that are more showy than the flowers. Pinnately compound foliage is attractive and graceful. Full sun, average soils, moderate water. One of our Top 10 pollinator plants!
A magnet for honeybees and other pollinators, this Korean native matures as a 25' tree with a spreading crown about the size of a dogwood. Clusters of white flowers bloom in early August. The blooms are followed by reddish seedpods adding more color to the landscape. This late flowering characteristic is most beneficial to pollinating insects as it comes in late summer when few other trees are in bloom. The Bee Bee Tree is relatively fast growing putting on 2 or more feet a year; trees flower at 6-8' in height. Deciduous and deer resistant, it does best in well-drained soil and it's an excellent choice as a street tree or landscape specimen where modest height is needed.
A nice large Korean tree with pungent leaves, wonderfully fragrant August blooms, and an elephant gray trunk set this apart from everything else. It is a fairly tough tree and can be successfully used to line streets giving us another option than "the same old thing". Bee tree also makes a great choice for those that might have bees or who are looking to encourage our struggling bee populations by giving them a late season nectar option. Mature trees best seen at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University and other arboreta in the Midwest and Northeast. These hardy seedlings were raised from seed collected in Lake County, OH.
