Nursery contributed plant descriptions

I'd read about this wonderful ornamental grass for the shade in several books, but it wasn't until Dale Hendricks of North Creek Nurseries and I were hiking the mountain on my farm that I found out that it was growing all over my woods.
Bottlebrush Grass has seedheads that resemble a bottlebrush. It is a cool season grass that actively grows during the spring and fall when soil temperatures are cool. Bottlebrush Grass provides texture and interest in shaded areas and is perfect for planting under oaks and other deciduous trees that allow some light to penetrate to the forest floor,? Also does well on forest edges that receive less than half a day of direct light. Hystrix patula Grows in any reasonably fertile well-drained soil.? It is included in our? Woodland edge seed mix. It is also commonly called Elymus hystrix. Zones 3 - 7.
