Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The bright pink flowers of Downy Phlox (Phlox pilosa) really light up the spring wildflower garden! A favorite nectar source of hummingbirds, it makes a great addition to hummingbird gardens. Downy Phlox is also known as Prairie Phlox - it grows in well-drained sand to slightly damp loam. Hardy to Zones 3 - 9.
Dubbed the 'Perfect Pink Phlox' by Gail Eichelberger on her wonderful blog, Clay and Limestone, this is a wonderful Michigan native phlox. She calls it practically perfect because it takes her tough soil without missing a beat and blooms its little head off. Forms small clumps of attractive narrow foliage to about 1 or 2 feet high, and is topped in early summer with exuberant masses of lovely pink flowers with a lavender eye. Like most phloxes, beloved of butterflies, and an all around excellent plant for any garden. In short, practically perfect. Zone 5 - Joseph
