Glossy burgundy-wine foliage makes a picture-perfect background for the large rose-pink flowers of this fine 4-5' Dutch selection. S/M PP10772
Deciduous, dense, rounded shrub that usually spreads slightly more than its height. Known for its abundant reddish pink blooms in April to June, and sporadically on new growth through October. Foliage is glossy green and burgundy-purple, turning very dark purple in the fall. Pruning should be done immediately after flowering. Good choice for hedges, shrub borders, groupings, or mass plantings. Growth Rate fast
The 'wine' is the glossy burgundy and purple foliage highlighted by lime-green midribs. The abundant 'roses' are red in bud, eventually becoming pink beauties that provide a stunning contrast to the leaves, and are great in cut arrangements. This truly superior cultivar holds its exquisite leaf color when other species will not, the rich shade intensifying as autumn approaches. (pp #10772)
Developed by Herman Geers of Holland its a great improvement over 'Java Red'; dark burgundy purple foliage and electric rose pink flowers, this has gotten a lot of press and rightly so. Herman was in the states last year visiting Spring Meadow and wanted to come see Arrowhead, he's quite a plantsman, we spent the day looking at plants in a cold windy drizzle (he collects dwarf woody stuff) we could easily have spent days talking.
Pink-rose colored flowers spring, intermittent in summer, deep burgundy foliage, deciduous, Hummingbird fave Zones 5-9.
Compact, mounding shrub displays bright rose-pink flowers featured against dark burgundy-purple leaves. Useful in a background planting, shrub borders and flowering screens. Deciduous. Another colorful, easy to grow ColorChoice® selection PP10772
