Silene acaulis is a broadleaf evergreen perennial with green foliage. In summer lavender and pink flowers emerge. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and occasional water. Does well in average and well-drained soil.
Silene acaulis, known as moss campion or cushion pink, is a small, mountain-dwelling wildflower that forms extensive moss-like mounds or carpets that spread and flow over and around rocks. Long, woody taproots serve as anchors in rock crevices. Pretty little pink-violet flowers bloom above its mostly basal, densely crowded, bright green foliage during summer months. A fascinator in the sunny rock garden and flowing over retaining walls. It is also called compass plant because the flowers begin to bloom on the south side of the mat. Tolerant of both dry and moist locations.
