Arapaho is a tree form hybrid; dense blooming red in August here in Oregon.
A US National Arboretum selection with medium cherry colored towers of September bloom. Fast, upright grower, to 20' tall (an excellent street tree!) with mahogony peeling bark and lusterous new growth of deep red fading to green. Mildew free. Supplemental summer water. Sun, good drainage, some summer water for best bloom. Frost hardy in USDA zone 7.
A large shrub or small tree with rich glossy purple-red foliage all summer. The pink flowers occur in August so we can even see them bloom in the northwest. This is a handsome plant for bright sunny areas.
