So, apparently this plant is known as Danshen in China and an important medicinal plant over there. We're growing it, however, for the beautiful, large purple flowers which are produced pretty much all summer. Information on hardiness is scant - some people say zone 8, others are saying much hardier. We'll be experimenting and see what it does for us. -Joseph
