A unique plant of great beauty (Thomas); Japanese dignitary with ebony stems [and in fall] loose, airy flights of ivory shuttlecocks 2" long in harmony with that line and deportment pervading the entire plant? (Johnson). S-PSh/M
Kirengeshoma palmata or Korean waxbells is a tall stately herbaceous plant from the Hydrangea family for the shade garden with wonderful serrated maple-like leaves and elegant creamy yellow bell flowers in summer and fall. A must for the woodland and shade gardens especially since it offers a tall vertical element that is less available from other shade denizens. Looks great with ferns, cobra lilies and hydrangeas.
Yellow wax bells is a fantastic and under-utilized plant for shaded gardens. This herbaceous Hydrangea relative reaches nearly 4' tall and wide and makes a great broad-leaved background plant during the season. In fall (September in my garden) it produces beautiful waxy bell-shaped flowers in a soft butter yellow.? This great plant belongs in EVERY shade border!
During the heat of summer Yellow Waxbell's large leaves and bold stature, 4', will bring a soothing presence to a shaded corner of the garden. Give ample moisture and protection from afternoon sun. Early to mid summer brings large pale yellow flowers in terminal clusters over an extended period.
Native to mountains in Korea and Japan, this shade-loving, deciduous perennial has large, dark green and shiny, maple-shaped leaves on stems to 4' tall forming clumps to 2-3' wide, all decorated in late summer with clusters of showy, pale yellow bells at the end of each stem. Performs best in rich, composty soil with regular summer water in part to full shade. Can be divided in early spring just as new growth appears. Frost hardy to -20 °F, USDA zone 5.
Blooms: summer-fall, waxy, yellow/ palmate, gray-green foliage Zone 4-9. 2', Japan, part shade-shade, moist, well drained
Large leaves, silvery when they first emerge in spring. Up to 4 feet tall (ours rarely gets above 3). Like ample moisture, but not boggy conditions. Protect from afternoon sun. Pale yellow flowers early to mid-summer. Zones 5-9

A bold foliage plant for the shade garden with light green large maple-like leaves. In late summer and early fall, soft yellow waxy bells appear followed by curious seed pods. Best in partial shade where it will reach 3-4' tall and 4-5' wide over time. Deer resistant!
Multistemmed plant with large leaves getting 4' or so high with mid summer yellow flowers at the ends of the stems. A very choice perennial and valuable for the late season flowers.
Exquisite tear drop shaped primrose yellow flowers on 30" stems. Handsome palmate leaves. Good soil with summer irrigation.
An Asian perennial with maple looking leaves. This 2' plant won't look like much until August when the large green buds develop. The thickened petals of the flowers will create a shuttlecock shape. Kirengshoma must have shade and will form an arching plant for late summer color. This is a fine plant to grow under magnolias and other small trees.
