Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A shade garden favorite with excellent foliage+lovely flowers = Jacob's Ladder! Reaching one to two feet tall it typically grows in light to moderate shade, but thrives in full sun in rich garden soil. Jacob's Ladder (Polemonium reptans) is perfect for planting in shady spots that receive indirect light, such as the north side of the house. Hardy to Zones 3 - 7.
I'm not sure who give this thing the name 'reptans' as it really isn't a creeper. Largely the same foliage and growth habit (12-18 inchestall) as most of the other polemonium, with exceptionally lovely pale blue flowers in last spring. Inclined to be a bit loose and sprawly, and to seed around, it looks best when let loose in a lightly shaded informal garden. Zone 3. - Joseph
