This rare spruce was introduced by Rehder and Wilson in 1905 from the Chinese mountains, where it grows between 4,000'-9,000', but it is still very little known; 30-50' tree with curving blue-green needles. S-PSh/M
A 1914 Wilson introduction from western China, it is an Asian counterpart of pungens and has been crossed with it.
