Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The mountain laurel is native to the eastern United States, but the only truly double-flowered selection was discovered in faraway New Zealand. It is rare in this country and much sought after. Its buds are pink, the hose-in-hose flowers opening white with a pink flush. Similar in growth habit and foliage to the species.
Typical, our natives go overseas and get named for their new cultivars. From New Zealand comes K. ‘Madeline’ with her double white flowers. The soft pink buds open to hose in hose flowers. A new cultivar to add to our other great kalmias.
