Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The first Wildflower that I learned when I moved to West Virginia and started exploring the woods around my farm. Brilliant yellow nodding flowers over supple, interestingly mottled foliage. Blooms March through April. 3-6" tall. Full shade to part sun.
The graceful, amber and cinnamon flowers of this rarely offered woodland native are exquisite and its leaves are just as good! Mossy-green dappled with brown, they inspired the name it's been known by since colonial days, trout lily. It's not for impatient gardeners, though. Even our blooming-size bulbs may not bloom their first year, and though they'll multiply eagerly in moist shade, the offspring they produce will take years to fully mature. Aka adder's tongue, amberbell, fawn lily, 7-10", zones 3a-7b(8bWC)
A beloved spring ephemeral, Trout Lily's maroon-mottled leaves give rise to slender stalks bearing nodding yellow flowers. Trout lily should be planted where it will receive the warmth of the sun in early spring. Cover with leafy material over winter and leave it through spring. Plants can form large thick colonies on rich medium to moist soil. When the plants include many leaves and few flowers the clumps should be divided. Also known as Dogtooth Violet, it is a true lily. Zones 3-8.
Our common native species, it forms huge colonies of speckled leaves often with few flowers, flat rocks and superphosphate helps.
