Dionysia involucrata

Dionysia are some of the most elite rock garden plants, capable of forming perfect half spheres of solid flowers when well grown, but most selections and species are extremely intolerant of summer heat or generally less than ideal conditions. This species, however, is one of the survivors for us, and is entirely unfussy and easy at least in our climate. Abundant pink flowers in the spring perhaps don't quite rise to the levels of surreal gorgeousness of some of the other species, but are still lovely and any dionysia in full bloom gives you instant rock gardening bragging rights. Incidentally, I'm perfectly sick of drooling with envy over pictures of European dionysia I can't grow here in Michigan, so I've decided to start breeding tough, mid-west adapted varieties. We'll see how that goes... zone 5
