Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Oriental Columbine will reach 24-36". Extraordinary and exotic; Plum, cream and yellow blooms. Allow to naturalize. Blooms Spring; Full sun to partial shade
Oxysepala, meaning sharp sepals, describes the especially long and pointed sepals (outer structure of the flower) of this columbine. They're a beautiful wine-red, the perfect compliment to the yellow interior petals on these summertime flowers that bloom in lovely clusters. It comes from open areas of forest or rocky exposed meadows of Europe and Asia, currently designated as endangered in Switzerland. This very large, complex flower attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees, as well as children that like "fairy flowers". 24" tall and clumping; happily self-sowing. Minimum temperature: -5°F
One of the smaller species, maybe a foot or foot and a half, blooms an attractive shade of burgundy. Interestingly, prone to rebloom here and there later in the summer when happy. Zone 5.
