Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The trifoliate leaves of this small-medium spreading tree are beautifully tinted red when young and a fine red again in fall; slender downy spikes of flowers are followed by 6-9" drooping racemes of reddish seeds. S-PSh/M
Little-known tree from China with trifoliate leaves, rarely exceeding 30 ft. in height. Long chains of winged seeds lend this plant an air of elegance during the summer months. Often confused in the trade with the more tender A. cissifolium, this species is adapted to the Midwest and Northeast.
Related to Acer cissifolium but with much better cold tolerance, visitors to the nursery always comment on this, many of them think we have trained poison ivy into a dwarf tree. Bizarrely unmaplelike, it does bear an uncanny resemblance but we guarantee it itch free.
