This subspecies is native to a fairly limited range in California. Sends up big flowering shoots covered with profuse, large, bright yellow flowers. Three to four feet tall, but only a foot or two wide. Quite showy. Zone 5
A highly adaptable deciduous perennial that will vigorously reseed in the right conditions. It is tolerant of drought (and a moderate amount of snow). The large (2.5 - 3") lovely yellow flowers bloom late Spring through mid Summer. The tall flower stalks with attract lined sphinx moth as well as other moths at night. The seeds attract goldfinch. Native to California and is also found elsewhere in North America and beyond. Attracts night pollinators. The plant has been used in the treatment of colds. Found in typically grows in moist locations and is usually found in riparian areas. Communitites located in Wetland-riparian Between 0 and 9186 feet.
