Iris Pacific Coast Hybrid [lavender] is a broadleaf evergreen perennial with green foliage. In spring lavender flowers emerge. Features glossy texture. Lavender' Iris grows to 18 inches and spreads to 2-3 feet. This Pacific Coast hybrid Iris features large lavender flowers with darker lavender veins and a golden throat and flowers in spring. Plant in light shade with occasional summer watering. PCH irises are drought tolerant once established, but they do like deep watering during the dry season. Transplanting or dividing should be done in December. Cultivars such as this are horticultural selections and hybrids, not part of the native ecology but work beautifully in the garden. Attracts beneficial insects. Douglas Iris is the parent stock for many successful hybrids. In some way, it is involved in nearly all the named PCI horticultural varieties. Some are pure, wild plants cultivated because of certain unusual features. But most are man-made hybrids - the result of crosses from specially selected parents.
