Eriophyllum staechadifolium is a broadleaf semi-evergreen shrub with blue and green foliage. In fall and summer yellow flowers emerge. Attracts bees and butterflies making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and regular - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in summer. Does well in average, gritty and rocky soil. A good option if you're seeking something for erosion control and seaside / salt tolerant.

Perennial herb native to coastal areas of California and Oregon with soft green leaves and fragrant, bright gold flowers. Specimens may vary from 4-5' tall rounded shrubs to low, sprawling forms only a foot or so in height, though ours will reach a shapely 3' x 3'. New leaf-tip growth is silver-gray, giving the shrub a pleasing "frosty" appearance. Blooms from May until September constantly, providing vibrant color and valuable nectar for bees and other insects. Full sun and well-drained soil best, but easy to grow. Especially handsome when massed. Frost hardy to USDA zone 8.
This perennial shrub grows to about 3' tall and 3' wide and is perfect in a coastal garden, and picture perfect partnered with coastal Lupines & Coyote Brush. A wonderfully easy to grow sub-shrub found along the coast where the gray foliage becomes covered with fragrant yellow flowers. Its frosty look makes it standout, particularly when massed. The form is nicely rounded, especially with some tip pruning. Needs well drained soils The fragrant flowers produce great nectar for small native insects and butterflies. The long bloom season lasts from May to September. The entire California coastline and into Southern Oregon. Found all along California's coastline, E. staechadifolium stabilizes sand dunes and provides food for a number of butterfly species. No Historical Uses found. Found in dunes, coastal scrub. Communitites located in Coastal Strand, Coastal Sage Scrub Between 0 and 328 feet.
