Golden yarrow is a 1 - 2' tall perennial with bright yellow flowers in early summer. Lovely foliage and bold flowers for dry well-drained spot. It does best with full sun, a little summer water, and good drainage. Companion plants include Salvias, Sticky monkeyflower, and California sagebrush. Makes a good wildlife plant. Native to California and is also found outside of California, but is confined to western North America. Used widely in restoration seeding of coastal sage scrub vegetation. Flowers offer a food resource for many nectar-foraging insects. It is reported that Southern California tribes used the white wooly hairs as a remedy for rheumatism by rolling the hairs into a ball, placing it on the affected part, and lighting it on fire. Found in found on brushy slopes. Communitites located in Yellow Pine Forest, Red Fir Forest, Lodgepole Forest, Subalpine Forest, Foothill Woodland, Chaparral, Valley Grassland Between 0 and 9843 feet .
