Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This annual wildflower grows to 2' high, with 2" wide lavender to pink flowers that bloom in late spring. Flowers can bloom for as long as 3-4 months, and are a long-lasting cut flower. Plant performs best with water every 7-10 days and full sun. In the landscape use as part of a border, bulb cover, and filler. This wildflower is generally pest free. Blooms June-Aug, sometimes into Oct. on coast. Endemic to California, found in southern Marin county to Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. Bees love it. No Historical Uses found. Found in grasslands. Communitites located in Northern Coastal Scrub, Mixed Evergreen Forest Between 0 and 1640 feet .
A romantic mix of frilly flowers on upright spikes in shades of pink, salmon, white, lavender and red. A cool weather annual that is a great addition to cottage gardens.
Aptly named for the deep red center of the flower – when backlit by the sun the base glows like a glass ruby chalice. In the early to mid summer this wildflower colors the grasslands pink along the coast of California (including the SF Bay Area), & it is easily transferable to a garden setting. In full sun it is fairly short (around 1’ tall & spreading), in shadier areas it can grow taller. Clarkia rubicunda self-sows strongly, & since neither snails nor marauding birds seem to want to eat the foliage, it is easy to establish your own clarkia patch. If you thin the seedlings, the remaining plants will be larger & bloom earlier, but thinning is not imperative. Bees love it, it provides lots of color in the garden at a time when other native wildflowers have faded away, & it is hard to think of an easier plant to grow.
