Ceanothus gloriosus var. porrectus is a broadleaf evergreen groundcover shrub with green foliage. In spring blue flowers emerge. Features glossy texture. Attracts bees and butterflies making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun - bright shade and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in summer. Adapts to various soil conditions. Does well in acidic, average, clay, gritty, lean, rocky and well-drained soil. A low-growing, sprawling evergreen shrub with a height of 2 feet and a spread of 6 feet. It's ideal for evenly moist soil situations like the coast from whence it hails. Nice evergreen foliage--tiny, shiny leaves--and lavender-blue flowers in spring cover the shrub. Well-drained site, whether moist or dryish.
This rare variety of C. g. var. porrectus grows only to approximately 1 foot in height with a wide spread to 10 feet. Pretty tough for a low growing plant. Mt. Vision puts on a great display of bright blue flowers in the late winter or early spring. It's small holly-like leaves make it one of the more deer resistant ceanothus. Can take full sun on the coast but if you have a more inland setting, give it partial shade. Restricted to the slopes of Mount Vision, Point Reyes Hill, Ledum Swamp and near the top of Point Reyes Road. Provides nectar for bees and butterflies. No historical uses found. Found in coastal slopes of mount vision . Communitites located in Closed cone pine forest, coastal prairie, coastal scrub, valley and foothill grassland. Below 1100' .
